BHARAT SHETTY
Bharat Shetty – Bharatha Yoga was started with the aim to introduce individuals to the amazing health benefits yoga offers and its positive impact on physical and mental health.
Early Life
Bharat Shetty was born on 19th March 1979, in Udupi, a town in South Karnataka, India. Practicing yoga at an early age, he was further drawn to the practice after yoga helped him manage chronic asthma he suffered from. His first teacher was Yogacharya Kumara at the Shantivana Trust, close to his hometown. As a kid Bharat Shetty was always a keen observer and an avid learner. Most of his learnings and practice in the early period was very natural and self-taught without formal training. He was a loving son and insightful student of mother nature.
When a bus accident in 1999 incapacitated his legs, he steadfastly worked on his recovery and was able to walk again soon after. He credits this revival to the inner strength he acquired through his yoga practice.
In 2002, he personally studied and trained with world-renowned Yoga Guru, Padma Vibhushan B.K.S. Iyengar, in Pune, India. This was an invaluable experience that helped further deepen his knowledge and insight into yoga.
Bharatha Yoga
Bharatha Yoga, the begining
Bharat had his first teaching experience in 1995 when he was approached with a request for taking classes by a group of people in a park where he practiced regularly. Teaching them yoga regularly, he discovered his true calling. Soon after, he decided to become a professional yoga teacher to pursue his passion and use his immense knowledge to spread the benefits of yoga to the world through Bharat Shetty – Bharatha Yoga!
Bharat founded Bharatha Yoga Shala, in Bangalore in 1998. He later moved to Mysore in 2004, one of the most important yoga hubs in India, and set up a new Yoga school Bharatha Yoga Shala.
Since then, he has been conducting teacher training courses and guided self-practice Mysore Style classes regularly.
A second shala ‘Aananda Yoga Bharata’ was also set up in the city center, where one can attend classes throughout the year.
